MALIYADEVA COLLEGE

Maliyadeva college is island famous school in Sri Lanka.

It is situated in Kurunegala District.

There are over 4000 students and about 200 teachers in this school.

EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

Maliyadeva College is a well known school in Sri Lanka because of it's achievements. Onwards year 2000 our school became a very competitive school in education. Advanced Level Examinations In present out school has more victories in education because of competitiveness of the students and hard work of the experienced teachers. · Year 1999 Commerce Section Island first place S. N. Endaragalla was the Island First in Commerce section in year 1999. He became the first place over 200,000 students in Sri Lanka · Year 2001 Science Section Island sixth place S. M. A. Jayawardane won the sixth place in Biology Science in year 2001. Nowadays he studies in Colombo Medical faculty. In that year, our school recorded best results in Biology Science. · Year 2003 Mathematics Section Island first and ninth places H. Dulip Bandara Piyarathne was the Island first in Mathematics Section in year 2003. Apart from that, R. M. A. P. Rathnayake became all Island Ninth place in Mathematics Section. This year Maliyadeva College recorded best results in whole country. Ordinary Level Examinations Maliyadeva College has most experienced and talented teachers in Middle Section. Nowadays our college has very competitiveness among the students. · Year 2003 Island First Place As a result, W. M. B. S. Wijerathne became the Island First Place in year 2003. It is a big victory for our school because he recorded the best results among 584,745 students Grade V Scholarship Examination In every year, our school records higher score levels in Grade V Scholarship Examination. There is much competitiveness among the students. We are in a hurry to record the best results very recently. Other Educational Achievements We try to build well-educated students from our skills. Therefore, every year our school records many victories such as, · 1996 : A. Pallegedara won the fourth place in All Island Chemistry Quiz competition. · 2000: H. D. B. Piyarathne won the third place in All Island Chemistry Quiz held by Australian Chemistry Association. · 2001-2002 : S. M. A. Jayawardena was the Champion in All Island Chemistry Quiz · 2003: Sumudu Samarakoon was champion in Mathematics Competition organized by Ananda College.

For the improvement of students' educational level, students are divided into several sections. They are,

· Primary Section (grade 1-5)

· Junior Secondary (grade 6-7)

· Secondary Junior (grade 8-9)

· Middle Section (grade 10-11)

· Advanced Level Section (grade 12-13)

There are sectional heads for each section. And for Advanced Level classes there are two sectional heads, for Science Sections and Art/Commerce Section. They are responsible about the education and the disciplinary of the students. The present Sectional heads are,

· Middle Section - Mr. Y. C. Yataware/ Mr. Harris Bandara (.dep)

· Advanced Level Section (Science) - Mr. D. M. Chandrasena/ Mrs. Swarna Gunathilake (.dep)

· Advanced Level Section (Art/Commerce) - Mr. W. P. Polhena/ Mr. Deepal Senadeera (.dep)

Every section of the school co-operate to manage the daily work easily and accurately. And all of these section provide educational equipments and facilities for students necessities.

Educational and other Facilities

As a leading school in Sri Lanka there many kinds of facilities that is needed to be an ideal school. Such as, · Well-equipped laboratories · Library · Play grounds and etc. Students can explore the education and improve their studies well using these facilities. Our school laboratories are completed with every facility and they are well equipped. Our computer Lab is also completed with modern computers and it is very comfortable. It was started on 1982 and was developed on 2004 and now there are more than 30 computers. Many students are exploring the new technical world through this section. Library facility is the most significant advantage that students and teachers have got. There are many categories of books such as Educational, Social, Literary, Mathematical, Biological, Astronomical and so on. Every class has a separated period to use this facility once a week. Play ground is an essential facility that a school should have. There are two play grounds in our school. There is a basket ball cord which can play day and night matches. There is a medical centre named "Suwa Piyasa" to inquire the students health problems. It was started according to an idea of the present principal Mr. R. M. M. Rathnayake.

HISTORY

In 1888 Sir Henry steel olcot & Anagarika Darmapala established MALIYADEVA BOYS’ COLLEGE in the Kurunegala. In the first days, the classes were in several places. Sir D.B. Welagedara has granted his land & the Buildings to the College. The first principle was Mr. U.B. Wanninayaka. The main objective of establishing the Buddhist schools is to stop the spared of Christianity by missionary schools.

It improved it's work & get a major role in education. It improved its educational activities as well as extra curricular activities. After few years it became one of the most popular schools in the country.

It contain one Play ground & one Laboratory for the A/L students. One library with about 50 books was there after the first few years.
